The Philippines: A Travel Gem Waiting to Be Discovered

I am a full blooded Filipino. I was born in the Philippines and I was raised there. Except for a few years working abroad and traveling. I have spent majority of my life in the Philippines, I plan to live there and die there. When I started this blog I was thinking that I was going to go to as many foreign lands as I can, write about them and take gorgeous pictures.

After reading a blog by a German-Italian travel blogger and how much she loved the Philippines that she made it a point to return to the country every year for at least 2 months, my eyes were slowly opened to the beauty of my own country. I am ashamed to say that this foreign travel blogger has been to more places in the Philippines than me. It seemed a travesty to me that I have not explored my own country, a magnificent place which this foreign traveler dearly loved that she could not resist coming back to it.

When I was starting this blog and writing content for it, I had started by writing about the foreign places I had visited but I found it especially difficult to start writing about the Philippines. There was too much to write about and too little to write about at the same time. The Philippines is an archipelago made up of more than 7,000 islands, however, I had visited only a few places.

And so, it is with determination that I am making a promise to explore every nook and cranny of my beloved country. It might take me some time but I am determined. It is not too late to discover the amazing islands. The number of islands is staggering that there is always something for everybody. Heck, I might even discover a tiny island which I can claim for myself.

Although there are many issues which affect tourism in the Philippines, such as lack of infrastructure and unrest in the south, it is truly a gem which is waiting to be discovered. I believe that it deserves much more tourists than the neighboring countries. You want beaches? We have the best in the world. You want fresh fruits and delicious food? We have plenty. You want friendly locals? Filipinos are known to be the most hospitable in the world and we certainly know how to have a good time.

If you are planning to discover the Philippines, whether alone, with friends or family, you can go to the Philippine government’s official tourism website for more information. To whet your appetite, here is the official 2013 tourism video.
