In Awe of Indonesia
Indonesia is officially known as the Republic of Indonesia and it is an archipelago with approximately 17,500 islands and its capital city is Jakarta. With over 200 million people, Indonesia is ranked as the world’s number four country in terms of population. The name Indonesia is derived from two Greek words Indos and nesos which means island.
Indonesia has hundreds of native ethnic and linguistic groups but the largest and most politically dominant group is the Javanese. Although the country has plenty of natural resources, poverty remains widespread.
Tourism is an important component of the country’s economy. It is also a significant source of foreign exchange revenues. The archipelago has so much to offer. It has cultural diversity, historical heritage and natural beauty which is unlike any other in the world.
In the year 2012 alone, more than 8 million visitors entered Indonesia. The single most visited tourist attraction in Indonesia is Borobudur but there are other breathtaking places worth going to such as Bali, Prambanan, Banten, South Sulawesi, West Java and North Sumatra.
